09 October 2008

Although I haven't knit in about 9 or 10 months (so basically since 2007) I had an urge to knit something last night. Unfortunately my back was aching from sitting on my bed weaving for 2 hours, and I knew it would be a bad idea to start something new at 11 PM. I think one of the most important lessons I've learned about any and all crafts is to quit when you're ahead. It's always, ALWAYS, when I say I'll stop after this row that I make a mistake. And it is always a mistake that takes half an hour to fix.

Over the weekend, I also learned how to spin yarn at A Mind's Eye in Porter Square. (In the past two months, I've learned how to wheel throw, spin yarn and weave a scarf!) Although I had absolutely no luck spinning at home, I think I was doing alright at the studio. If nothing, I can get the drop spindle to spin really fast. This weekend I am heading up to NH to the Wool Arts Tour, to check out farm animals, yarn, spinning machines and pumpkins. Even though the act of knitting isn't exciting me much these days, I'm really looking forward to the road trip!

My college mascot was an elephant, or pachyderm, as I like to refer to it as. I would definitely knit this pachyderm from Ysolda. Now I just need to find my knitting needles.
