28 April 2010

This is true:

In Public Health today, we watched this video. Brings me back to middle school-yeah to Schoolhouse Rocks. I couldn't agree more with the title of this video!

and

I inhaled a whole bag of Food Should Taste Good Sweet Potato Chips--absolutely delicious

and

I wanted to go swimming this evening, but I'm dreading the idea of plunging into chilly water--I might have to reconsider AGAIN

and

I'm enjoying these salted caramels before I hit the gym this evening--I definitely work out so I can eat in peace!

07 December 2009

I'm so glad today is today, right now, this minute. I took my pharm final this morning on about 4 hours of sleep, and I'm done with pharm for the semester! I'm so excited. Now one more test, 100 questions, between me and winter break.

02 December 2009

Long day today but at least the school portion is over! Woke up at 5 AM to do some more studying, which did absolutely nothing for my grade. Fell back asleep for an hour, and then had to find something nice to wear for the Career Fair this afternoon--not an easy task (the finding clothes part, not the Career Fair). Had my last Patho class--and will definitely miss the professor. She ended the class by telling us the TNM and Grade for Lance Armstrong's cancer, and reminded us to "respect the patients' hopes." I know it may sound cheesy, but I think it's absolutely true.

Last day of class for the semester. Two more finals to go and that's it for December! When I return in January, its 7.5 months and then hopefully a great job somewhere on the East or West coast.

Hungry, and dreaming about making some apple crisp with some caramel sauce and Cool Whip.

I have a problem: Many days, I can't remember if I've already taken my multivitamin. So right now I'm guessing/hoping I did. And then somedays I don't talk my multivitamin, so then it's 3 or 4 days before I take my calcium pill. It's the little things in life that frustrate me!

07 October 2009

I've been studying for a test for over a week. I started last Monday, and took the test this morning. And what I've come to realize is that I'm terribly Type A. Terrible.

03 August 2009

One final down, 4 more to go. And if only I wasn't feeling so unmotivated!

Lunch: 4 fried chicken wings with fries
Dinner: 1 cup of Fage 0% with almonds, honey and flax seed
I really need to do better about moderation...

exercise count for last week: 4, including some weight lifting two of those days, running all four days.

30 July 2009

One of my classmates got her bike stolen outside the SON. So maybe I wont be getting a bike in Baltimore anymore...

21 July 2009

I got out of class early today (a whole 40 minutes early). But instead of being diligent and productive with my school work, I went to the gym, cooked myself dinner (a real dinner, not a sandwich or cereal or ramen), and showered. All of that, and it's 8:40 and I haven't even looked at the quiz material I have for tomorrow. When I'm not under pressure, I just falter.

It looks like I have nothing due this weekend either, which is an AMAZING concept. But finals are coming up, and I know I should really start studying for that. Oh the joys of being a nursing student never end.

I am looking forward to the summer vacation so I can do all the things I've been neglecting, especially reading. I miss reading.

19 July 2009

Some mornings I feel like I made a mistake coming back to school at 27. Generally I don't mind having the apartment to myself (well, really, what choice do I have?). But waking up on Sunday morning at 8 AM so I can study for ANOTHER test on Monday is really not how I want to spend my time. And the program is so intense that I find it hard to make time for fun things, even eating out (time constraints and money). I think it would have been harder if I was in Boston doing a program because I would have had more distractions, but I'm not sure if the loneliness is a good alternative.
There is exactly two weeks of the summer semester left, followed by finals and then I'll finally be on vacation (for three whole weeks!). I feel completely burnt out. I never got a handle on eating properly. So while I'm no longer just eating ramen and cereal for dinner, I definitely am not eating very healthy foods. I think the last time I actually had a vegetable was about two weeks ago. And exercise-that was hard last week as I was only able to go twice to the gym. Most importantly, I'm not getting enough sleep, going to bed at midnight and waking up at 6 am. I hope I'll have more energy and renewed motivation after August.

08 July 2009

A couple of days ago I had a conversation with a friend about being lonely in New York. How would it be possible to feel lonely in New York City-one of the most populated cities in the country? And that's precisely the point. In a city with so many people, it magnifies any feelings of loneliness you may feel. Some days, thats how I feel here. I'm in a program with 130 other students who are in the same situation with me, and yet I haven't really made any friends. Granted, I generally take a long time to form friendships, but there are so many possibilities (and a month into the program) but yet I haven't really made one good friend. It definitely amplifies the loneliness I feel. Maybe that's why I've gotten so good at being independent. Maybe it's not a choice, but a necessity. I'm really not that distraught over this, but merely a realization that I am good at making superficial connections, but a harder time forming the deeper ones.

06 July 2009

Lately, I've thought a lot about where I want to be in a year. A huge factor that I'm not taking into consideration is where I will find a job. But I hope the economy will get better by the time I graduate, and it wont be so hard pressed to find a job. So on to the possible places to explore: I know I could always move back to Boston, but I think I need a couple years away from Boston to really know if I miss Boston because it's such a great city or simply because it's the only city I know.  So with that in mind, I'd love to explore some other major cities, namely San Francisco, Seattle, New York City or go abroad.  Also, everyone who I've talked to who has visited Chicago, raves about it.  So that's also a possibility too.  Oh, and I could always stay in Baltimore a couple more years. I just know I don't want to fall back on the familiar; fall back into my routine and be comfortable, but maybe not happy exactly. I really want to challenge myself, and as difficult as being here in Baltimore has been at times, I know the change was long overdue. And there is something so wonderful about doing something just for yourself. I think the problem I'm running into is that I'm not really sure what my goals are after I finish the program. I mean I know I'll be working as a nurse, but that's where the fuzziness and uncertainty sets in.  The possibilities are endless, and there is definitely comfort but also anxiety knowing my choices are limitless.

this polaroid reminds me of the one photograph that sparked my desire to start a blog...

crème glacée

I know it doesn't make a lot of sense because it is absolutely freezing outside today but I really would love to have one of these.

10 November 2008

quel âge avez-vous?

I have a problem. I can never remember how old I am. I'm not sure why it's so hard for me to remember my age. Part of it is after I hit 25, then I'm waiting to hit 30. So the years in-between, it doesn't really matter what age I am, until I hit 30. Not that 30 is terribly significant for me though. I dont have any goals for marriage or family or anything like that. (Well I have goals for a family but it's not linked to a certain age).

Anyway, I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving already, even though it's several weeks away. And then the New Year. I can't believe its less than 2 months until 2009. I definitely remember celebrating 2008, and making my resolutions; some more successful than others.

I think I need a balloon today. Yellow preferably.

corbeille

I watched Wall-E this summer in Santa Barbara, after getting in a terrible fight with a friend. And we both decided that an animated movie was the best idea--no talking necessary.

I enjoyed the movie, and sure there's the overarching message about taking care of our environment before Earth becomes uninhabitable and we're shipped off to space. But being the hopeless romantic that I can be sometimes, I got sucked into the love story. It's a depressing moment when a robot can find true love...

P.S. How is he so cute even when he looks so sad?
